What do I have to apologize for? How often I write on this blog ( I have two others now) was dependent on my readers, since I had very few comments on this one compared to my main blog. This was supposed to be an interactive blog as you can see from the blurb below the blog title.

I still have more material for Friendship but I just don't have the time to write another post. Some more thoughts on Friendship. Why is it that some people seem to sustain a friendship only for a short period and then they move on to another friend, although the first friend had not done anything to severe the friendship. They seem to do this repeatedly. As soon as the friendship becomes stronger, they cut off the friendship? Is it a matter of fear, commitment issues, a self-fulfilling prophecy or a bad habit?

Just wondering if I should have guest bloggers for this blog. What do you think?PC Nicholashttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16810820514780066900noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-723958133693498429.post-79658272880403952342011-05-17T15:42:00.000-07:002011-05-17T15:42:43.885-07:00Is friendship allowed for Healthcare Professionals.Studies have shown the negative consequences of friendship of health professionals toward their clients or patients. The negative consequences is the result of not following certain rules that govern professional friendships. Firstly, the client or patient is seen as vulnerable, so the professional have to cautious of crossing boundaries that will cause the client to feel a need to give affection or receive affection from the professional. Sometimes though a client will feel the need to know more private history about the professional that they have related their private information and weaknesses to.

Generally, the majority of professionals abide by ethical rules regarding such friendships. Information received from clients or patients are kept confidential. Health professionals don't usually discuss their personal problems with their patients,

Actually a true professional's friendship with a client is of an altuistic kind. They give support, health, listening attitude, friendship, advice, treatment without judgement, bias and sometimes not even expecting gratitude in return. After all is that not unconditional love??? Is that not empowering???
DixonRivers from Blog Catalog

Have you had a trusted friend who had harmed you, gossiped behind your back, cheated on you, betrayed your trust and confidence? Yes, most of you are nodding. Some best friends have become enemies, especially someone you trusted with your secrets.

Sometimes it could be a misunderstanding, a lack of proper communication or it could be the choice you made or the friend you attracted. ....

"One sort of friend is a friend when it suits him but he will not be with you in time of distress."
"Another is a friend when all goes well, he is your other self, but when you're brought low, he avoids you."
Bk. of Sirach

True, strong friendships are tested by time, distance, challenges and the ever-present egos. Like all relationships, friendships go through many of the same cycles. You must have heard of people marrying their best friends and when the marriage dissolved, the friendship still remained, which is fortunate for the children concerned.

I've seen how
best friends turned enemies, have forgiven each other and their friendship have become stronger. I've also seen best friends who've not forgiven and there is a sadness that pervades their lives. So I really think in order to get on with your life's journey, you should make the effort to forgive, even if the friendship does not return to its former glory.

Next week, we'll conclude with a special kind of friendship, perhaps the most altruistic one and the controversy surrounding it.
Some of the comments which you will see below reminded me of other aspects of friendship? Apparently, there are friends but if you have 900 friends on the internet, surely they are all not friends in the true sense of the word. In fact, how many "friends" on the internet have you seen or phoned or even know their real name?

Many "friends" on Blog Catalog don't give their real name, e-mail address or phone number to their general friend list. The ones who I consider my genuine friends on Blog Catalog, are those that I have exchange mailing address or phone numbers. These are only 0.5% of the number of friends listed on my profile page. Yet, there are more who have usually responded to my discussion threads but we do not carry any conversations outside of Blog Catalog.

So it begs the question? Who are your true, trusted friends? To answer that we first have to find the characteristic of these genuine friends. To help in this, I will share the comments that the Blog Catalog friends posted on my thread, and a couple of these have become my friends in the past couple of years.

Friendship is... (according to these members from Blog Catalog)
,,.... growing together. (Sprigblossoms)
... is a blessing for all ages. (Nothing Profound)
...opening the songbook in your heart and having another sing the same tune.(TimeThief)
... able to talk and relate to him or her. When you find a good friend, better appreciate what you have. Good friends are rare.(Broken Blade)
....is sharing what's common and embracing what is different. (Yunyi 2009)

The above comments are really appreciated. They reflect this saying in the Book of Sirach.
"A faithful friend is a sturdy shelter, he who finds one finds a treasure. ....beyond price, no sum can balance his worth."

We also had some comments that went like this.
Friendship is a double-headed sword. (Dixon Rivers)
There are other friendships in the Humansphere. Yes, your good friend can become your foe. Friendship can turn "sour" for a number of reasons. Can that be prevented? Do all friendship follow the Give and Take Formula? Stay tuned for the next episode...As the Friendship turns,... in the next couple of weeks.
Questions that Require Answers
Does having friends make you live longer? Did you choose your friends? Or did they choose you? Was it circumstantial or was it a deliberated, calculated plan on your part or theirs?

In this fascinating investigation of friendship which includes the results of studies done in the late 1990's, this series about friendship will show the difference of the friendship of men versus women and the impact it had on their health and mortality. Studies are still ongoing with regards to friendship and the latest is one conducted by scientist in regard to online friendships and their field of investigation is none other than Face Book, one of the largest social network sites which is like a free group of online subjects.

One particular area of friendship, I will be touching on is the area of friendship of health professional and their clients. I know there are many health professionals who are finding online and phone therapies cloud the boundaries between a therapeutic friendship and a non-therapeutic one. What if someone is already a good friend and wants to be your client. Usually, if it is a chronic condition, I've declined and referred them elsewhere. What if your satisfied client decides to become your friend? In Part 2 of this investigation, I will address that.

Friendship among Women

Researchers in a UCLA study, found that when oxytocin which is released as part of the stress responses in a woman buffers her fight and flight responses and encourages her to tend children and gather with other women which in turn produces a calming effect This is opposite to men producing testosterone in high levels when they are stressed. Later it was noted that when women were stressed during the research, they came in to the lab, had coffee and bonded, while the men stayed each by himself. (Taylor, Klein,Lewis,Gurung &Gruenewald2002)

Another study showed that people who had no friends increased their risk of death over a 6 month period. The Nurses Health Study from Harvard Medical School found that the more friends women had, the less likely they were to develop physical impairments as they aged and lived happy lives.
Please feel free to send me your comments and I might include it in my next post in early March.
Now I'll go and put a thread on the discussions on my social network online and see what my online friends have to say! Hope you will ponder on this quote.

"Anybody can sympathize with the sufferings of a friend, but it requires a very fine nature to sympathize with a friend's success."
- Oscar Wilde
It was a very warm Sunday day as the tour bus drove us up the picturesque hills to La Jolla and on our way there, we took a detour to Birch acquarium which is situated on a bluff overlooking the Pacific Ocean.

There are 60 habitats of fishes and invertebrates there. There was the Hall of the fishes, the coral reef and outside was a tide pool plaza where we could touch the creatures that were in the shallow waters. Have you ever seen a leafy sea dragon? Perhaps I should leave it to Nathan of Wild Facts to write up on it.

La Jolla is surrounded by ocean bluffs on 3 sides and spectacular homes of the very wealthy, as it has the highest home prices in the US. Twelve miles of beaches on one side, with several sea-level caves in the northern shores. It was a treat to see whole families of seals or sea lions basking on the huge rocks below.
Divers and people on canoes and paddle boats were on the shimmering waters. It was a lovely trip with a very informative guide.

Will be back in the cold winter climate for Ottawa's famous winter festival for our next post.

Edit: Nathan has written a fabulous post with pictures on 19/01/11 on the leafy sea dragon. Check it out at his site. http://www.wild-facts.com
For my readers in the North, you might think, I'm having illusions as how can anything sprout in the cold winter season where the ground is covered in a blanket of snow. Yet the seeds are there ready to sprout.

However, in the garden of our minds, the seeds of inspiration and ideas are always there waiting for the right conditions to sprout. So what are the right conditions. Showers of laughter, you know the belly laugh variety, the soil fertilizers of forgiveness and gratitude. Then the time of reflection and meditation is added for germination to occur. Simple isn't it? It's not so easy or simple as you write, you most probably are thinking. You're right? Did you see a full grown corn grow over-night after planting or even a week or a month later. No, so you have to continue providing the right conditions for your seeds, ie, ideas, inspirations to sprout and grow.

I was looking for an office to continue my energy therapies or RET business. I did all the above and after 6 months, I've found a space in a Wellness Clinic. I will be seeing clients 3 days a week which might include some Saturdays. It is in the East End of Ottawa. Perhaps, I'll see you there one of these days. I'm also going to facilitate a Boost Your Energy monthly class. The first one starts on January 22nd 2011. You will find more on my other blog -

Next post, we will be visiting an aquarium in La Jolla California to get some relief from winter!
The ones spent as a child was filled with awe, surprise and activity, the latter performed by the adults around me. I was fortunate enough to have a dad who gave more time to the spiritual aspect of Christmas and the focus was on caring and sharing not just with our family members but with the non-christian community around us.

Over the years in the different countries, I've lived in, Christmas celebrations concentrated on the core family and could include the extended family. But what if your core family lived miles away, or if they were no longer living and as a result, people are depressed over the Christmas holidays because they are "alone".

It does not have to be, if we can take a step to reach out to other people besides family and friends to share the celebrations of a child born over 2000 years in a stable and his immediate family celebrated his birth with strangers and the outcasts. My wish for parents and grand-parents, is that they do include others in the Christmas celebrations and make Christmas a time of love, sharing and loving, listening, caring and forgiving.

Christmas is not a time to dwell on memories of the past but a time to make memories. It is not a time to drown in past hurts but to seek healing for them. If you are stuck on any negative emotions, like grief, regrets, sadness, frustration, etc..., then tap. If you would like, e-mail me and I could guide you on how and what to tap on.
Instead of asking " how old are you?", we should be asking,"how young are you?" I started the day as usual with my 5 minute energy routine.
We spent this anniversary of our births by driving to Chateau Montebello in Quebec. The picture on the left is of the huge fireplace in the center of the foyer.

It was a scenic drive with the view of the hills, valleys, the Ottawa River and the quaint little towns that we passed by. Within an hour, we reached our destination, the Chateau was nestled in a treed, sprawling estate. It has housed many important events and celebrated politicians and royalty had been past guests. As we walked in to go to the restaurant, we passed the hugest, tallest fireplace, we'd seen anywhere. There were also little boutiques on the first floor.

We went down the stairs to the restaurant , o what a feast for the eyes. The gracious hostess led us to a table that faced the river, told us the delicacies that were on the menu for the lunch buffet and gave us time to decide upon the whole buffet or only the cold buffet. We chose the former. We noticed that there were many Americans, either tourist or people who were attending a convention. The food was more than delicious.
We were not the only ones celebrating birthdays this day, and the staff were busy singing a birthday song in French for a couple of tables.

We had a nice walk around the property after our amazing lunch. Oh, what did we have, you asked? There was rabbit poached in wine sauce, seafood medley, mixed vegetables, potatoes cooked in several ways, rice pilaf, huge salad bar, smoked mackerel, smoked tuna and other smoked meats, not to mention a huge table with various pies, cakes, mousse, cheesecake and fruits. Surely, you did not expect me to tell you what exactly I ate? Some things should remain private!

We then drove back before the traffic rush began! Then, I spent part of the evening in a thanksgiving meditation, not just for this day, but also for Energy Medicine that have made me feel younger every year since 2007. Any of my readers have the same feeling on their birthday? If not, then do contact me, so that when your next birthday come along, I'll show you how you, too, can feel that way.
My next post will continue with my trip to San Diego!
She pioneered Eden Energy Medicine, some 30 years ago. As I studied her book "Energy Medicine" and followed her art and form of Energy Medicine, I regained my energy as never before and my clients benefited from the simple but powerful energy routines.

Eden had combined ancient eastern techniques with the western that is easy to learn. I found I could relate to her explanation and working with the lymphatic system which I found very much ignored in my western health training. I was longing to take one of her live courses for a couple of years.
Then early summer, this year, I heard that she was giving her last 5 day training in the US, as she was tackling other projects, including exporting this training herself, to Europe and other continents. She could do so as she had trained enough people to continue her work in the US and Canada.

I've read so much about her insights, works and seen her energy demonstrations on her dvds and videos. How real was her happy, smiling disposition? Now, finally, I've met her in person and she even demonstrated the Brazilian toe technique on me. What's my verdict, you may ask? Oh Yes, that smiling and happy persona is very genuine, not a frown or a sad look did I see during those 5 days, and I was on a optional tour with her on some free time we were given.

So this is one of my mentors - a happy, compassionate, gifted person who has transformed thousands of lives through her practice, workshops and teaching. There was a child-like quality about her and she looked 30 years younger than her stated age. She truly has found the secret of youth and joy in Energy Medicine.
Actually, her last name is so appropriate - the garden of Eden was abundant and joyous!
The almost full moon was huge and amber colored and just below a very large, bright almost red star, correction it is the planet Jupiter in all its glorious energy. Ahead of me was the waters of Mission Bay which was shimmering with the reflection of the moon.

In the morning, we awoke early as we had an exercise class before breakfast. As I walked to the conference room, I passed a humming bird, some gulls and terns flying around the red and orange bougainvilleas, palm trees and other exotic plants. Breakfast was served on board a stern boat called Belle, docked at the bay.
The six days spent in San Diego was truly a feast for all my senses, while invigorating body, mind and spirit. Some of the participants found it rather overwhelming as so much was covered in such a short period of time. For almost three years, I was preparing for this event although I was not conscious of it then. There were about 120 of us from the US, Canada and Australia. Many came to hear, see and learn from this pioneer and no one was disappointed. So who am I referring to? Stay tuned to my next post!
I asked a reader of my novel to give me some passages that were her favorites. She gave me nine pages..... Now asking the author to choose her favorite is akin to asking a mother to chose her favorite child - actually that might be less challenging for some mothers.

In keeping with the animal theme of the passage I chose from the first book, this one mentions creatures of the sea. Rachel, one of the characters, the matriarch to be exact, narrates this scene in chapter Six of Lucia M of Singapore.

"........we crossed the causeway to Lido Beach in Johor where there were so many starfish. It was our favorite place to have chilli crabs. On one of the trips, we brought Lucia, who collected all the starfish she could find and left them in a pile by the beach. After we had lunch at the beach side restaurant, she returned to pick up her starfish but could not find them. Raul told her that the tide had come in and washed them away."

Next post, we will have a scene about school bullies and Lucia in her words.
One of my readers, gave me a compliment that reflected the above, when I only, posted two short paragraphs of Beneath the Singapore Sky. When a reader who has not visited the Far East can feel the atmosphere and see the scenery, ah, that is what many authors hope for.Thank you Nathan! Also, on the thank you band wagon, I like to include my former schoolmates in Singapore who told me that parts of my second novel Lucia M of Singapore was to them, a walk on Memory Lane! So terima kaseh, Julia, Josephine and Sarah.
So I chose something that could relate to a biologist with a wildlife blog.

In Chapter One, Rani, one of the principal characters of this historical novel, recalls a harrowing trip she took with her husband and young son, a few months ago, during the Japanese Occupation of Singapore in the early 1940's.

......."My husband Jerome and baby son went too, as the bishop had requested help to construct a village in the dense, uninhabited Rain Forest.

There were four small lorries, all packed with people, boxes and trunks. The journey was rough on the bumpy roads, in the sweltering heat. As we passed through the dense jungle, we saw different animals and birds. Jonah was delighted to see the monkeys swinging in the trees and the wild boars and elephants on the sides of the road. A contingent of Japanese soldiers in a jeep led the way, with another at the end, fully armed to prevent us from escaping or joining the dissidents hidden in the jungle."

If you have any comments, please send them to me. In September, there will be a post on the second novel, Lucia M of Singapore
It is now with the Proofreader.I've not made any progress in finding a suitable publisher due to the constraints of going back into a full-time position, which has curtailed my writing, too.

Some people were inquiring how to purchase my novels. Finally there is a purchase button with PayPal for them. These are limited edition novels, so they are not in any major stores. Once they are gone, that's it!

A number of Singaporeans have read, both my books and the feedback was glowing, something I did not expect. They think I should write another sequel. What do you think? Would you like me to give you excerpts of both the novels?

My second novel has only 30 copies left. All books bought from this blog-site will be a signed by myself.
Have a great month of August!

Note - At present, books will only be shipped within the USA and Canada!
The postage will be subsidized by the author.
To all my Canadian readers, Happy Canada Day! The difference about this Canada Day - the Queen of England is visiting as the guest of honor. The other difference, I'm living within walking distance to where all the events are taking place for Canada Day.Wait a minute, excuse me, I hear them, so I'm off to my balcony.

I'm back. I was watching the Snowbirds doing their flying spectacular in the blue sky laden with clouds. What a treat. I'm so thankful that the move to this new place went smoothly and I'm enjoying my location tremendously.I don't have to worry about parking or getting stuck in traffic. My life is a blessing and I'm filled with Gratitude! Now Gratitude should be shared, so I'm sending thanks to all of you!

Have to get to work soon as I did not get a Day Off today! So enjoy Canada Day, my fellow Canuks! For my non-Canadians readers, could you please leave a comment on where you're from & when is your National Holiday?
Our spring came too early and it was one of the warmest recorded spring we've seen. Some people were even in shorts in the balmy days of May.

Today, on the second day of June we had a thunderstorm, in fact we had tropical storms this couple of days and more to come in the next few days. Ottawa had a reputation of being one of the coldest capitals but now, that claim is suspect. Is this the result of global warming?? Actually, our past winter was quite mild, too. Florida, watch out, you might not get your usual "snowbird" residents next winter. One of my friends have some red cardinals ( of course, I meant the feathered kind) in her backyard. Perhaps in another post, we will mention some of our feathered friends who have made Ottawa their home.

On the next post, we'll give you a glimpse of what Ottawans do in the summer and one of my first summer activity - my move in three weeks to my ideal location. As for now, working full-time, packing for the move and writing - where do I get the energy - if you're familiar with my blog, then you know the answer! If you're not familiar, then get busy and read my posts to find the answer.
Just one of the many varieties of Peonies found in the Experimental Farm Gardens.
Just a couple of days before the tulip festival, before the sea of tourist will descend on the capital city of Ottawa, I walked on this cool spring day with just a few people about. Oh, words cannot describe the beauty that enfolded me as I walked by the Rideau Canal and Dow's Lake.

The myriad of colors, yellow, white, red, fuscia, purple, orange, pink, bi-colored and there were two beds of peonies, I thought. Closer inspection revealed, the Monte Carlo which was yellow, multi-petaled and the red Miranda. I have never seen tulips that were like rosettes, before. Many of the varieties were scented, too. This year, Holland's queen will be the guest of honor at the festival. It was her mother who has sent millions of tulips bulbs every year in thanksgiving to the Canadian people who sheltered her and her little daughters during World War II.

O what a feast for the senses! Ottawa has definitely been transformed to a huge beautiful flower garden.PC Nicholashttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16810820514780066900noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-723958133693498429.post-50816815605742020192010-04-19T19:30:00.000-07:002010-04-19T19:30:20.574-07:00Still in a State of FluxIt has been 2 months since I last posted. It seems like a vacation from a state of flux is what I need now. It is definitely what I want. So I am planning to go on a educational vacation this September. Does that make sense after I just told you I want a vacation now? Perhaps it will, if I tell you what's happening.

I've moved to a temporary lodging while I'm in the process of finding a more permanent one. So going away for a vacation is out of the question. However, I don't have to go away...
The location of my present housing is where tourists flock in the next few weeks for the Tulip Festival. This area becomes a beautiful, huge, spring garden with varieties of tulips, daffodils and other spring flowers in landscaped beds. Then, there are decorated boats floating on the canal just a couple of minutes' walk from where I live.

As I took a walk by the canal, the yellow buds on the trees is already making the landscape surreal. and the canada geese were gliding gracefully along the shallow waters. The purple martins were scouting their territories in the different trees by the canal. Some people were even sun-bathing on the slopes near-by. Oh Yes, my vacation has already begun!

In my next post, I will write about the reviews, I've received from my second novel Lucia M of Singapore.
My work as an energy medicine therapist took more clients then I've ever had. Then, I prepared and delivered a Level One Course which I named Latticework of Energy, Level One. The outcome and evaluation was more than I could have anticipated. I would have liked to have time for a litlle vacation, however, something else happened that caught me by surprise!

Ten days ago, I decided to finally put my condo on the market. Within two days, an offer was made with one condition that they wanted to occupy the condo on February 26. So now, I am concentrating on finding a smaller place, trying to pack and parting with some furniture that I don't need.

I suspect this state of flux will remain for a few months yet. Yes, it could be a time of anxiety, instead I have consciously chosen to associate this continuous change with the emotion of excitement, anticipation and surprise.

If you don't hear from me for another longer interval, at least you could blame it on my state of flux, ie continuous succession of changes. An update on my Lucia M of Singapore - 60% of the copies are sold. If any producers would like to turn it into a movie script, please contact me.
I have had interesting comments from those who have bought my novel on this opening poem. So enjoy and comments would be appreciated.
The Family Band
As fingers of your hand differ,
so do members of the family band.
Each with a unique contribution,
as fingers in a hand do work.
If the Hand was all thumbs or pinkies
Oh what chaos that would be.

Pull one part of the hand,
the rest follows in quick motion
Negative - the vibrations
Positive - the vibrations
that infuse health to the family band.
She has done so much as a wife and mother, quietly and without any fanfare. So to celebrate her birthday tomorrow, here it is!

This Woman

She could pass off for Vanessa William's double!
Though Vanessa got older, Sandra did not!
No face lifts or a luxurious life,
Yet youthful, she looks
While laundering and ironing,
Marketing and cooking.
Perhaps the genes have contributed..
Definitely a personality positive,
Laughing at life's intricacy

Passion surely significant in her life.
She worked with passion in her role
As wife, mother, daughter and sister.
She found pleasure in the simple things
that warms the family atmosphere.

To keep the family together,
This woman tried as no other.
Not one for travel, yet she
Traveled the miles, to support her husband
Where work brought him to.

The academy nominations may pass you by,
Not that you care for such accolades.
Your greatest joy and achievement
Are reflected in your husband and children
As you made it easier for them to achieve.

Perhaps your children and husband
sometimes take you for granted,
Yet, somehow, you'll be rewarded
With what is beyond imagination.
For those who work with passion
In this under-rated occupation -
Housewife and Mother!

Yes this is what I wish for all my readers, especially the readers who have supported me. I am very grateful for what I have received in the year 2009 - the ups and downs, the many challenges - they were sometimes not pleasant but that did not stop me from achieving some of my goals, especially writing and self-publishing these novels. Now I can add that 50% of the copies of each novel have been purchased.

My little tip for all of you - if you think you can, you will and if you think you can't, you won't! Do not put limitations on yourself or your worth. I think each of you deserve the best and you were created out of love and if you doubt that, please send me an e-mail and I will attempt to show you that you were created from Love!
Wishing each of you a Joyful and Healthy New Year!
