One of my regular readers, Nathan asked for an excerpt. So I chose something that could relate to a biologist with a wildlife blog.
In Chapter One, Rani, one of the principal characters of this historical novel, recalls a harrowing trip she took with her husband and young son, a few months ago, during the Japanese Occupation of Singapore in the early 1940's.
......."My husband Jerome and baby son went too, as the bishop had requested help to construct a village in the dense, uninhabited Rain Forest.
There were four small lorries, all packed with people, boxes and trunks. The journey was rough on the bumpy roads, in the sweltering heat. As we passed through the dense jungle, we saw different animals and birds. Jonah was delighted to see the monkeys swinging in the trees and the wild boars and elephants on the sides of the road. A contingent of Japanese soldiers in a jeep led the way, with another at the end, fully armed to prevent us from escaping or joining the dissidents hidden in the jungle."
If you have any comments, please send them to me. In September, there will be a post on the second novel, Lucia M of Singapore

Lucia M of Singapore -back cover
My second book appears to be doing well - almost 50% have been purchased. One of the purchasers told me that it could stand on its own i.e - you could read the second one without reading the first one which is "Beneath the Singapore Sky".
As promised a couple of weeks ago, here is the back cover.
Wishing each of my readers, a wonderful Christmas and a New Year filled with Hope, Joy and Peace!

Let me introduce you to LUCIA M of Singapore
It was a fantastic weekend for Lucia M of Singapore. Once again, the sequel to Beneath the Singapore Sky was a limited edition. Yet before it was printed, some copies were already sold. As of now, which is Thursday 10 December over 30 copies have been sold.
This is the front cover of the book and next week, I will include the back cover! If any of you would like to purchase a signed copy, you could do so by leaving a comment with your e-mail address and mark private, so that it will not be published in the comment section. Thanks.

Working on the Sequel to "Beneath the Singapore Sky"
So what do you do when a few people who bought your book ask, " So when will the Sequel be out?"
It is on the back cover of the present novel Beneath the Singapore Sky that a sequel will follow. Yet it surprised me that it provoked interest even though these customers did not even begin reading the first chapter of book that they were holding. "Before Christmas," I blurted.
I realized as soon as the words were out that I had just given myself a deadline.
Nothing like a deadline for a writer to prevent the deadly procrastination. So I started working on Lucia M of Singapore enthusiastically initially. However, after a few chapters, I realized I was not dreaming of the next chapters as I did the first novel. My heart sank. Where was the ideas for next plot or chapter going to come from? Did writing my first novel attach me to my dreams? Perhaps!
Although, this novel was more of a challenge to write, I believe it had made me more creative, especially my format changed from the first one.. So much so, that I have decided to rewrite the format for Beneath the Singapore Sky for the second edition or printing. The story will not change but how it is presented will. I am gearing up for another book signing and a reading for the public library.
If any of you had done a reading for you book, please send me your views and what to expect as this will be the first for me. I have not really done a book launch yet, however in September I will be doing my third book signing in Toronto. If any of you are in the vicinity, you're invited to attend.

Beneath the Singapore Sky 4
If you are wondering where Beneath the Singapore Sky post 1-3 are? Well, I have left them in my older established blog - empower-you.blogspot.com
The second book signing went well considering the almost non-existent advertising and the summer activities and festivals going on that weekend.
The next book signing will be in Toronto on the 18 and 19 of September. More information will be posted in the next few weeks.
I've also been approached to do a reading at the library as well as in a couple of book clubs? No I've not heard from Oprah yet!
The sequel is progressing although slower than I expected. Perhaps, I did not factor the time I would be spending promoting the first book. What a learning experience?
